Living in Japan
My wife often says to me that I am as Japanese as my Japanese friends!!
But growing up as a foreigner in Japan, I think my point of view is a little different than other Japanese who live here. I was not “raised” as a Japanese, so for the first 21 years of my life, I was half-participant, half-spectator to the different customs in Japan.
After I graduated, I was living alone in Tokyo, working for a Japanese company, and 99% of my friends were Japanese. I could speak Japanese and eat Japanese foods, and I knew my basic customs, but my knowledge was quite superficial.
Staying in Tokyo since 1991, I can’t say that I am an “expert”, but I was motivated to increase my understanding of the country where I was I was born and raised.
On the left, I have listed a few things about living in Japan that I want to share. I have tried to make it as accurate as possible, but if you find anything that is wrong, please let me know.
