Tokyo Restaurant

Before I got married in 2006, I was a bachelor in Tokyo for about 15 years. I used to cook at home, but as the years went on, more and more I relied on eating out. If I have to eat out, I would like to go someplace nice! This is a list of places that I have been to time and again and recommend wholeheartedly.

In Tokyo, there are so many restaurants that most of the time I don’t even bother going back if I find it ’so-so’. There has to be something to the place (food, ambience, good staff, entertainment factor, convenience) that will make me want to go back.

How I find places to eat

By far, I use the Gourmet Navigator to find a restaurant. Their Japanese site is really comprehensive and from time to time they have special features (Romantic restaurants for Christmas, restaurants where you can go . Most of the restaurants that are listed have coupons, which helps out quite a bit! They also have an English version, but the number of restaurants there is a bit limited.

Another good English link is Bento.com. For veg options, you can use Happy Cow.

Another medium for me is Tokyo Walker. I will browse through the magazine in a bookstore every two weeks and buy only when the feature suits me.

There are other magazines like Tokyo Calendar, Otokono Kakurega, and Ikkojin, but most of the places listed are way expensive! But reading it and dreaming of going is a good way to waste time….

I have broken the restaurants that I recommend into categories on the left. Wherever I can, I have given a link to the place. Bon appetite!
